How to calculate commission?

Tracking commissions helps your shop reward sales performance while keeping reporting and payouts organized. This article walks through different ways to calculate commissions in Printavo, including gross sales, net profit, and payments received, using exported order and payment data to support your shop’s sales and accounting workflows.

Calculating commission by gross invoice sales

Gross invoice sales is the total sale amount, including tax, fees, and products. If you pay a sales representative a percentage of gross sales, perform the following steps to calculate their commission:

  1. Export your orders from My Account > Import/Export Data > Quotes/Invoices
  2. Select the date range of commissions to calculate from
  3. In the CSV export, the “Total” column is your total sales to calculate commission
  4. Be sure to filter out invoices that aren’t completed or not related to the sales representative you’re calculating commission for

Calculating commission by net invoice sales

Net invoice sales is the profit from an order. This is the gross sales minus taxes and cost of goods sold. Perform the following steps to calculate commission:

  1. Export your orders from My Account > Import/Export Data > Quotes/Invoices
  2. Select the date range of commissions to calculate from
  3. In the CSV export, create a column called “Profit”, which is Total - Total Expenses - Sales Tax (https://share.getcloudapp.com/nOuvNN4k
  4. Be sure to filter out invoices that aren’t completed or not related to the sales representative you’re calculating commission for

Calculating commission by payments received

  1. Export your payments from My Account > Import/Export Data > Payments/Expenses
  2. Select the date range of commissions to calculate from
  3. In the CSV, the “Amount” column is your total payments to calculate commission
  4. Be sure to filter out payments that aren’t completed or not related to the sales representative you’re calculating commission for

You would calculate commission by payments based on the cash received.
